What Do I Have To Give? (A Reflection Especially for Women)

What do I have to give? Perhaps Mary asked this question to herself when the angel Gabriel informed her that she was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. It was unclear to Mary, but her abiding faith accepted the angel’s proclamation.

So in the fullness of time, the seed of God was planted in a poor, dark-skinned, unwed girl who lived in the ghetto of Nazareth. God’s decisions are beyond human understanding. The Bible does declare, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways, declares the Lord” (Isaiah 55:8 NIV).

Not unlike Mary, you may never have seen yourself as the fragrant rose or delicate orchid that completes God’s work of love, but you are. From the beginning of time, God saw you as the answer to what was missing in creation. From the living rib of man, God breathed life into a woman. With God’s breath came all the feminine beauty and emotional connection the world ever needed. Nothing was added after the woman. You added the finishing touch to God’s creation.
